On 3 Aug 2000, the State Archives in Leitmeritz sent the entries below and stated: … we got stuck with the birth of Joseph Kautsch on 19 Nov 1731, since there were two couples Johann and Maria Kautsch in Dobern at the same time: 1) Johann, son of Georg, who married Maria Porsche on 6 Nov 1708 2) Johann, son of Christoph, who married Maria Störch on 1 Nov 1718. One Johann died in 1755, the other in 1757…
There actually were at least four Johann Gautsch, and the right one died already before 1746. 1) Maria, widow of farmer Johann Gautsch, died on 22 Mar 1746, 60 years old. So she and her Johann were likely born around 1686 and possibly the ones married in 1708. She would have been 45 when Joseph was born. Also, a Porsche was godmother to the boy. 2) Johann Gautsch, retired farmer on Dobern 80, who died 17 Mar 1755, was 43 years old and too young for the two marriage dates above. 3) Johann Gautsch, farmer on Dobern 80, who died 8 Mar 1757, was also 43 years old. He may have been Joseph’s older brother, since Joseph married right after Johann died. 4) This leaves the Johann who married Maria Störch in 1718. He fits better agewise but neither he nor his Maria appear in the death register. Also, he was the son of Christoph who was a cottager (craftsman or day laborer), an unlikely heir to the family farm.
